LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, during National Police Week, county sheriffs across Nevada's rural counties announced their endorsement of Governor Joe Lombardo, reaffirming their confidence in his leadership and commitment to public safety.
“I’m honored to have the support of our rural county sheriffs, who are on the front lines every day protecting our communities,” said Governor Joe Lombardo. “Their endorsements reflect a shared commitment to keeping Nevada families safe. As former Sheriff of Clark County, I understand the challenges law enforcement faces and the real impact crime has on victims and families. As Governor, I’ve been proud to work alongside our sheriffs across our rural counties to strengthen public safety, and I look forward to continuing that work together.”
In their endorsements, sheriffs pointed to Governor Lombardo’s commitment to public safety, his decades of law enforcement experience, and his record of advancing tough, effective crime policies. Excerpts are included below:
“Governor Lombardo has consistently demonstrated the integrity, leadership, and commitment that Nevadans deserve from their governor. From his decades of service in law enforcement to his dedication to improving public safety and strengthening our communities, Governor Lombardo has proven that he leads with both courage and common sense.” - Sheriff Brad Pope, Lyon County
“Eureka County needs a governor who will keep fighting for us. We need a Governor focused on rural growth, better partnerships with the state government, and a clear vision for the future. Governor Lombardo embodies all of those qualities.” - Sheriff Miles Umina, Eureka County
“Nevada has benefitted from [Governor Lombardo’s] leadership and the priority [he] placed on law and order. We have seen an increase in State Troopers patrolling the Highways, and we have benefited from the collaboration with the Nevada Division of Investigation on major cases.” - Sheriff Daniel J. Coverley, Douglas County
“Having served alongside Governor Lombardo in the law enforcement community, I have witnessed his commitment to the safety and well-being of our citizens. Nevadans are stronger and safer under his watch.” - Sheriff Michael S. Cullen, Storey County

Governor Lombardo, a law enforcement veteran of more than 30 years and former Clark County Sheriff, has made public safety a cornerstone of his administration. In addition to delivering a double-digit pay increase for Nevada law enforcement, Governor Lombardo introduced and signed his Crime Reduction Act (SB412) in 2023 and Nevada Safe Streets and Neighborhoods Act (AB4) in 2025, which delivered the most comprehensive public safety reforms in decades by protecting victims, cracking down on violent criminals, drug dealers, and DUI offenders, and reversing soft-on-crime policies. Under Governor Lombardo’s leadership, Nevada has reported a 9% decrease in murders, a 26% decline in robberies, a 15% decrease in burglaries, and a 10% reduction in violent crime statewide.
