IN CASE YOU MISSED IT - The U.S. Oil and Gas Association (USOGA) responded to Aaron Ford's misleading claims about rising gas prices.
As their tweet highlights, under Gavin Newsom, California has pushed aggressive CARB regulations, low-carbon fuel mandates, and refinery crackdowns, specifically Phillips 66 in Los Angeles and Valero in Benicia, that have driven up fuel costs for Californians. Those closures will eliminate roughly 20% of California’s gasoline refining capacity, and Californians are already seeing gas prices rise as a result of these closures.
As USOGA points out, Nevada gets nearly 90% of its fuel from California, so Nevadans pay the price when California politicians push bad policies that fuel gas increases.
Instead of fighting to LOWER costs, Aaron Ford sued the Trump Administration in March to reverse the repeal of costly federal regulations, siding with policies that make energy more expensive to produce.
Meanwhile, Governor Joe Lombardo has been sounding the alarm and taking action:
Created the Fuel Resiliency Committee to reduce Nevada’s dependence on California and strengthen fuel supply security, which brings together state, local, and industry leaders to identify risks and keep fuel flowing during disruptions
Advanced infrastructure priorities to strengthen Nevada’s fuel logistics network
Coordinated with federal partners to fast-track key energy projects
Led a bipartisan effort with Katie Hobbs, warning Newsom that California’s refinery regulations could create shortages and spike prices across the West
The questions the media should be asking Aaron Ford:
Why do you fight to keep heavy federal mandates that drive up gas prices?
Gavin Newsom has been one of your political allies and supporters, do you stand by his energy policies that are driving up gas prices across the West?
If Newsom’s policies are raising costs for Nevadans, why haven’t you spoken out against him?
Do you support Lombardo’s Fuel Resiliency Committee, or do you side with California’s approach?
BOTTOM LINE: Nevadans are paying more because of Gavin Newsom and California’s extreme political agenda and while Aaron Ford defends them, Governor Lombardo is fighting for solutions and putting Nevada first.
