Aaron Ford Stands with Gavin Newsom as California Policies Drive Up Gas Prices for Nevada Families

LAS VEGAS, NV — As California Governor Gavin Newsom visits Las Vegas this evening, Nevadans should remember one simple fact: Attorney General Aaron Ford is endorsed by Gavin Newsom. Ford has even gone so far to join up withNewsom to raise money for his campaign - inviting California activists to influence Nevada’s politics. Meanwhile, Newsom’s disastrous energy policies have already driven up gas prices across the West - and Nevada families are paying the price.

Under Newsom’s leadership, California’s aggressive refinery regulations have contributed to refinery closures, reduced fuel production, and increased gas prices across the region. Two additional closures - Phillips 66 in Los Angeles and Valero in Benicia - are expected to eliminate nearly 20% of California’s gasoline refining capacity, putting further pressure on fuel supplies and increasing the risk of price spikes throughout Nevada and the West.

To fight Newsom’s disastrous energy policies, Governor Lombardo asked Attorney General Ford to take legal action against California’s mandates and help protect Nevada families. Attorney General Aaron Ford refused to do so, instead standing with Gavin Newsom.

Conversely, Governor Joe Lombardo has taken action to protect Nevada families. Governor Lombardo formed the Nevada Fuel Resiliency Committee to strengthen the state’s fuel infrastructure and reduce dependence on California supply disruptions. Governor Lombardo has also repeatedly raised concerns about California’s refinery policies - sending multiple letters to Governor Newsom, coordinating with neighboring states, meeting directly with energy industry leaders, and directing Nevada agencies to engage with California regulators to protect Nevada’s fuel supply.
